Kiese Laymon is a celebrated Black Southern writer and professor from Jackson, Mississippi, known for his powerful explorations of race, family, identity, and American life. He currently teaches English and creative writing and has been honored with a prestigious MacArthur Fellowship (“Genius Grant”) for his contributions to literature and cultural thought.Laymon’s work spans fiction, essays, and memoir:
