About this Event
On the back of NAIDOC Week, we're welcoming and for a conversation about the secrets and stories we inherit without knowing - the ones we tell ourselves to survive, and what might happen when we stop, take a breath, and speak.
About the Book
Secrets is a powerful family saga about a matriarch with only months to live and a secret kept for sixty years. Her grandson is in gaol. Her family is fractured. Her beloved homestead is slipping away. It is a sweeping story of truth, generational trauma, and the fierce possibility of healing, and what happens when silence has sat too long at the table.
About Judi
Judi Morison is a Gamilaraay and Celtic storyteller whose work is shaped by years of listening; to Country, to stories, and to First Nations voices through the Dreaming Inside Project at Junee Correctional Centre. Her novel was mentored by Larissa Behrendt and is a testament to the power of truth-telling.
About Zohra
Zohra Aly lives on Dharug land in Sydney. A former pharmacist turned writer, she has a Masters in Creative Writing and her work has appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald, Meanjin and Sydney Review of Books as well as various anthologies. She mentors emerging refugee writers and brings the same careful, clear-eyed attention to everything she writes.
Together, they will take the themes of Judi's novel off the page - where they stop being literary devices and become the thing we're all living. Come along. Bring a friend. Bring your questions.
