About this Event
Bruno Macaes is a Portugese former politician, author, and intellectual. He served as Portugal's Europe Minister from 2013 to 2015 and has served as a member of the European Council on Foreign Relations and the Brussels Institute of Geopolitics.
He is the author of several acclaimed books, including "Dawn of Eurasia", "History Has Begun", and "World Builders".
Bruno will join us to discuss his new book "In Search of a Greater India", which explores the concept of India as a "civilization state", which he describes as a "polity that embodies an organized set of ideas about human life and human society, which is radically different from the modern, Western concept of the state". The civilization state differs from the liberal state in offering a vision that is "contestable, contingent, and rooted... powerful enough to stand the test of reason". Bruno argues that Indian civilization is fully independent of liberalism, and his book explores the character of a "Greater Indian civilization"
