Experience the magic when male voices meet brass. The New Zealand Male Choir is performing at Prince Edward Auditorium, Whanganui Collegiate School, Whanganui with Brass Whanganui, Saturday, 11th October 2025 at 4.00pm.Singing in a choral setting is what brings the New Zealand Male Choir and Brass Whanganui together for an afternoon of music. They will perform separately and together so you get to hear the widest variety of sound. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear the mix of voices and brass at its best.
The New Zealand Male Choir is an auditioned choir with over forty members from Southland to North Auckland. Conducted by Hawkes Bay’s Joe Christensen, the Choir sing a range of music including classical, folk, waiata, gospel, operatic, popular, jazz, and contemporary.
The Choir has entertained audiences both nationally and internationally for the past 25 years. Last year they completed a successful tour of Europe, with six concerts in Singapore, Nördlingen, Innsbruck, Marostica, Florence and Rome, plus attending the four day Alta Pusteria Music Festival where an additional six performances were given. It is understood the New Zealand Male Choir was the first New Zealand choir to attend this prestigious festival held in the Italian Dolomites.
Musical Director Joe Christensen comments “I’ve now been with the Choir nine years and have really enjoyed the challenge of working with the men and melding the four voice parts to produce a quality sound. They worked hard for the European tour and were rewarded with standing ovations, with the highlight being the final concert at Teatro di Marcello in Rome.”
Brass Whanganui has been at the heart of the city’s music scene since its founding in 1882, making it one of New Zealand’s oldest and most celebrated brass bands. Known for its vibrant performances, the band brings people together across generations, performing at concerts, community events, and competitions while fostering the next generation of brass players. With a reputation for energy, precision, and style, Brass Whanganui continues to innovate while honouring its proud tradition. Audiences can expect powerful music, a welcoming spirit, and a touch of flair that makes every concert unforgettable.
Both NZ Male Choir and Brass Whanganui are looking forward to entertaining Whanganui surrounding districts and give the promise of an enjoyable and memorable afternoon of music and song.
