Curriculum

Over six weekly evening sessions, you'll learn the art of comedy improv through a series of fun and engaging exercises designed to build your skills and confidence. You'll enjoy thinking on your feet, collaborating with others and bringing your unique perspective to every activity.

In a concise and organized sequence, topics include:

  • Character
  • Teamwork
  • Narrative
  • Status
  • Embracing uncertainty
  • Spotting success
  • Short turn-taking
  • Inhabiting the moment
  • Confidence in your own voice and body language

The course isn't just for actors - it's for anyone looking to develop their communication skills – whether or not you want to take these skills onto the stage. It’s suitable for all levels of experience, actors and non-actors alike. Beginners especially welcome.

Improvisation appeals to business professionals keen to improve their public speaking, teachers hoping to engage students more meaningfully, and anyone who wants to have purposeful fun while meeting new people.

Who will be teaching the course?

The course is designed and taught by Paul Z Jackson, director of the Awkward Actors shows, supported by members of that team. Paul is an experienced teacher of improvisation who has created a series of successful performing groups in British cities.

He’s a well-known author, speaker and 10-year President of the Applied Improvisation Network.

Paul draws on his experiences in journalism, comedy production and the BBC to design and lead projects, workshops and training programmes that transform lives by developing collaborative skills.

Sign up today and join us on a journey of discovery and laughter. You'll be amazed at what you can achieve when you let go of perfectionism and embrace the power of improv!
