Learn the Art of Improvising with a Story Structure!
About this Event

About the Class: Combine the power of storytelling with the magic of improv in this six-week elective class. Participants will learn how to harness the power of the Story Spine to build rich narratives in the form of a fully-improvised one-act play. The class will show how to build detailed characters and use narrative structures to explore comedy and drama on the stage. We will delve into genre possibilities to open up a whole new world of improv at the conclusion of this class. This class requires students to have completed LIP's Improv 201 or Artistic Director approval! Students must be 18 or older for this class!

This Class will run Mondays from 7pm-9pm on the following dates: 3/30, 4/6, 4/13, 4/20, 4/27, and 5/4. This class has a class show on Friday 5/9 at 5pm! Ticket sale ends at noon on Saturday 3/28!

About the teacher: Brian Shea (he/him) discovered improv in 2015 and has gone full speed ahead ever since. He joined LIP in 2022 and performs with Peach Soda. A co-founder of Highwire Improv, he also performs regularly in the Baltimore area with Teen Angst, Important Screws, Whatever This Is and other special projects. Brian loves to explore the possibilities improv can offer from improvised narratives to delightfully weird tag runs. He also knows way too many random facts about R.E.M.

Scholarships: Some scholarships are available to partially or fully cover the cost of the stated class fee. For additional information, please reach out to [email protected] with your request at least a week prior to the start date of the class.

Refund Policy: We will not refund any orders after the start of the first session.

Parking: There is street parking around the theater on Prince St, King St, and Vine St, which is not metered after 6pm and not metered Sundays! The parking garages are open. Steinman Garage, Prince St Garage, and Duke St Garage are recommended in that order! On the weekends the garage is $5 for the whole day!
