About this Event
To equip workers who support people with lived experience of mental ill-health with the knowledge, skills, tools and confidence to initiate a conversation about smoking, and to support those who are ready to quit.
By the end of this session participants will:
- Be able to highlight the health risks of smoking and the impact of smoking on mental health (MH)
- Recognise the impact of smoking in creating health inequalities amongst people experiencing long standing MH conditions
- Understand how smoking affects medications
- Be able to facilitate conversations about smoking with your client group
- Have gained a basic understanding of behaviour change techniques and motivational interviewing
- Understand the current stance from the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland regarding e-cigarettes
- Know how to signpost to the NHS Tayside Quit Your Way smoking cessation service
This course requires the completion of an e-module (maximum 1-hr) before attending
