This talk places contemporary immigration enforcement in historical perspective. While mass deportation and detention have taken center stage under the current administration, these practices, along with the federal agencies charged with implementing them, have a long history in the United States. Rachel Ida Buff is a historian of migration and immigrant rights movement. She is particularly interested in international political mobilizations and repression, from the Cold War to the present. She is currently a professor of history at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
