Arrival: Please meet outside the Level 2 library doors or in front of the ground floor lift at 9:20 am for staff to provide early access.

Workshop Format: This immersive three-hour session is designed to guide you through the entire picture book creation process. The workshop begins with an analysis of popular picture books, highlighting key elements that make them stand out. Participants will then dive into the practical aspects of book design, including layout, typography, and visual storytelling.
You'll receive hands-on guidance on preparing a manuscript for publishers, from crafting a compelling query letter to understanding contracts and royalties. The session includes interactive group discussions where participants can brainstorm and refine their ideas with Jeannie Baker and fellow attendees. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a clear plan to take your picture book from concept to market-ready.
About Jeannie Baker
Jeannie Baker is an English-born, Australian children’s picture book author and artist, known for her collage illustrations and interest in the natural environment. Her books have won many awards. Among them are ’Where the Forest Meets the Sea’, which is a Boston Globe-Horn Honour Book, a recipient of an International Books for Young People (IBBY) Honour Award, and a recipient of the Friends of the Earth Award in Great Britain. ‘Window’ was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal in Great Britain and both ‘Window’ and ‘Mirror’ won the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Picture Book of the Year Award.
