About this Event
How do we imagine futures worth fighting for?
This FREE creative writing workshop introduces participants to Solarpunk -- an optimistic cultural movement that envisions a future where humanity lives in harmony with nature and technology. Delivered in collaboration with the London School of Solarpunk, this session offers a structured yet open space for filmmakers, writers, creatives and storytellers to explore positive, future‑focused narratives.
The workshop begins with a short presentation on the Solarpunk aesthetic, its roots, and its growing influence on climate storytelling. Participants will then be guided through a series of creative prompts designed to help them imagine everyday life in a better future. Rather than prescribing solutions, the format encourages personal exploration through structured exercises which help participants reflect on climate change, social transformation and hopeful futures through a creative, accessible lens.
The event is open to the wider public, but is particularly aimed at:
- Filmmakers
- Writers and screenwriters
- Artists and creatives
- Storytellers interested in future‑focused narratives
The session aims to spark new ideas for scripts, short films, stories, artworks and creative collaborations rooted in hopeful climate futures.
This workshop may also act as a pilot for a future series in Reading, supporting the development of locally created positive‑future narratives that could be produced and shared across the Berkshire region. Collaboration opportunities will be explored with Screen Berkshire and Resource Productions to connect the workshop with the local creative ecosystem.
After the workshop, participants are invited to stroll over to Forbury Gardens for some climate-friendly food at Big Lunch Reading 2026 (11:30am to 3:30pm).
