About this Event
"Deaf Republic," written by Ilya Kaminsky, an American poet of Ukrainian descent, is a lyrical masterpiece with a poetic drama quality that has garnered significant attention and praise since its publication. As Colum McCann remarked, it not only "explains and illuminates our collective deafness" but also astonishingly reveals to us a "republic of conscience."
Therefore, this upcoming Accent Sisters poetry reading event, titled "Deaf Republic," has invited American poets Ilya Kaminsky and Katie Farris, along with Chinese poet Wang Jiaxin, as special guests.
The reading will be conducted in a bilingual format (English/Chinese). Ilya Kaminsky will read selected chapters from Deaf Republic, while the attending Chinese poets will read their Chinese translations. Katie Farris will read excerpts from her poetry collection Standing in the Forest of Being Alive, and Chinese female poets will read their Chinese translations. Poet and translator of the Chinese edition of Deaf Republic, Wang Jiaxin, will read his own poems and translations, and will also host a conversation with the two American poets.
We warmly welcome all literature and poetry enthusiasts to join us in the early autumn of 2024 to listen to the voices of poetry and engage in a dialogue with poets from China and the United States. Following the reading, there will be a book signing event with the poets.
