Discover Oldham in a new light – Illuminate returns for 2025! 📍 Saturday 22 February, 6–9pm, across Oldham town centre venues
📍 Sunday 23 February, 6.30–9.30pm, Northern Roots, Kings Road
Join us for an unforgettable weekend as Illuminate Light Night returns for its eighth year with the theme, “Illuminating the Everyday.”
This free, family-friendly festival showcases stunning light installations, spectacular performances, and interactive activities by artists from Oldham and beyond.
Highlights include:
✨ The Illuminate Parade opens the festival from 6pm with a community-led celebration featuring dazzling lanterns, dancers, drummers, and giant puppets.
✨ Take part in MAPP, an interactive video-mapping installation where you become the art at Oldham Libraries by artist Alex P
✨ Join us for ‘Harmony Hall’, a spectacular projection and live performance at the Old Town Hall from Illuminos & OTW Oldham
✨ Explore Gallery Oldham's Light Painting Workshops and exhibitions, and experience the contemplative ‘Reflect’ installation by Emma Gasson at Oldham Parish Church.
✨ Don’t miss ‘Somnius’, a mesmerising sound and light installation at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Oldham.
✨ Take a guided tour of the Oldham Parish Church crypt, burial home of the famous Oldham Giant.
✨ Listen to whole host of great live musicians, in conjunction with Oldham Music Network and the Egyptian Room.
✨Walk through a collection of 100 real-time heartbeats from Oldham residents, with ‘The Matter of the Heart’, symbolizing the collective power of the community in a dazzling display of light and rhythm from idontloveyouanymore.
Then on the Sunday, you can end the weekend with 'Into the Future', an interactive journey through technology and nature at Northern Roots, 6:30-9:30pm.
What will a future of tantalizing technology, robots and AI look like? What will the future look like if we love and protect our natural world?
Let Global Grooves and intergalactic snail riders Sleepy Pete, Rosemary Ripple and Gastro Flash take you on an illuminated journey into the future at Northern Roots!
Into the Future will conjure a futuristic, fun and fantastical story, celebrating local artists, community talent and the spirit of Carnival as night falls over the Northern Roots site.
Join us for this free, family-friendly event on Sunday 23rd February, 6:30-9:30pm at Northern Roots, Oldham, OL8 2BJ.
