Ikebana Demonstration with Deborah Hathorn
JET AA Scotland is pleased to invite JET AA members and the general public to an ikebana demonstration led by Deborah Hathorn, one of the UK’s most experienced and respected ikebana practitioners.

Deborah Hathorn has been a leading figure in the practice and teaching of ikebana for over five decades. She began studying ikebana in 1972 and obtained her teaching qualification in 1975. In 1980, she joined Ikebana International, through which she has made a significant contribution to cultural exchange and international friendship, particularly between Japan and Scotland, as well as with other countries.
She remains actively engaged in the international ikebana community, regularly participating in workshops, demonstrations and conferences both in the UK and overseas. Her work spans teaching, exhibition-making and public engagement, with frequent involvement in gallery and festival exhibitions in Edinburgh and the surrounding area.
In 1984, Deborah Hathorn founded the Edinburgh Sogetsu Study Group. Since then, she has played a central role in promoting ikebana through practical teaching and the development of teaching materials. Her sustained commitment has helped to nurture successive generations of practitioners and to deepen public appreciation of ikebana as a living and evolving art form.
