Get in history lovers: we're going on a road trip!! ๐ Join State Historical Society of Iowa Administrator Valerie Van Kooten for a one day journey to Underground Railroad sites in southwest Iowa on Saturday, April 18. ๐บ๐ธ As we approach America250, this trip highlights Iowaโs powerful connections to the nationโs long journey toward liberty.
Stops will include:
๐ John Todd House Museum (Tabor)
A recognized Underground Railroad station. Learn how John Brown used the town as his base of operations in the years leading up to the Civil War.
๐๏ธ Hitchcock House (Lewis)
Home of abolitionist preacher George Hitchcock and now a National Historic Landmark. Walk the rooms where freedom seekers found shelter on their journey north.
