The Regional University Industry Collaboration (RUIC) Program is funded by the Queensland Government and delivered by CSIRO.

Event overview

This free event is for Queensland founders and growing small-medium businesses (SMEs) who want to turn sharp ideas into research projects, with up to $50k in matched funding available from the Regional University Industry Collaboration (RUIC) program.

Join our special guest speakers Professor Kerrie Wilson, Queensland’s Chief Scientist, and Julia Spicer OAM, as well as RUIC alumni start-ups and university researchers, for an afternoon of quick-fire panels, talks and interactive activities.

If you are interested in researching a new commercial idea, developing new products or processes, or validating your existing technology, then we would love you to join us.

Event program

1:30pm Guest registration

Guest Speakers

Professor Kerrie Wilson, Queensland Chief Scientist

Professor Kerrie Wilson commenced her role as Queensland Chief Scientist on 1 November 2023. She is responsible for supporting the generation and translation of globally significant science to ensure sustainable economic growth in Queensland.

With a distinguished career in academia and conservation, Professor Wilson has held prominent positions at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), including Pro Vice-Chancellor (Sustainability and Research Integrity) and Executive Director of the QUT Institute for Future Environments. Her previous leadership roles include Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Environmental Decisions, Director of Conservation for The Nature Conservancy Australia, and she currently serves as a natural sciences expert on the Australian Heritage Council.

Julia Spicer OAM

Julia Spicer OAM is a regional entrepreneur, governance leader and passionate advocate for rural Australia.

Based in Goondiwindi, Queensland, she is the founder and co-founder of multiple businesses including Engage & Create Consulting, The Goondiwindi Business Hub and most recently, The Connection Table.

A current Councillor and past Queensland Chief Entrepreneur, Julia works across local, state and federal levels to ensure regional voices are represented — helping leaders, organisations and communities grow through strategy, connection and practical action.
