Description:
The workshop will introduce fundamental movement methods in a very accessible and simple way. We will playfully explore our movement possibilities using the resistance of the floor and gravity to become aware of how we use the forces of push, pull and reach. What we do will feel like a fun 'moving massage' of our whole body and will propose playful and surprising ways to interact with our environment through movement.
Ages / experience levels:
Ages 12 and up, any level of experience with movement (anyone and everyone welcome!)
What to wear / bring:
Wear comfortable, loose clothes that you can easily move in. We will be working barefoot.

About Marcela:
Marcela Giesche (US/DE) is the 2024 Caroline Plummer Fellow for community dance at the University of Otago. She is a freelance choreographer, performer, curator, researcher, dance teacher and founder/ artistic director of the dance venue LAKE Studios Berlin in East Berlin. She has presented her choreographic work and shared her movement techniques internationally in schools, universities, festivals, companies, and dance studios with professionals and amateurs alike.
One of her main goals in art making is to bring contemporary dance out of its bubble and make it more accessible to the general public: “I wish to open as many different minds and bodies to the transformative and communicative power of movement as possible.”
As part of her proposed project Marcela is connecting with diverse communities all over Ōtepoti – Dunedin, weaving them together into a moving self-portrait of the city. The first phase of the project (April – mid August) consists of an outreach program where Marcela will be offering free movement workshops in her dance and improvisation methods. These classes are geared towards people of varying ages, experience levels, backgrounds, and abilities. Please contact her via the website below if interested.
