Museums Uniting a Divided World: From Shared Histories to Common Futures
In a time marked by geopolitical tension, cultural shifts and environmental uncertainty, museums are increasingly called upon to serve as spaces for dialogue, care and shared understanding. The ICOM Nord Spring Conference 2026 brings together museum professionals from across the Nordic and Baltic region to reflect on how museums can contribute to connection in a divided world, fostering a sense of shared ground, belonging and responsibility in times of change.
Taking place in Reykjavík on 12 May 2026, the conference aligns with this year's International Museum Day theme, Museums Uniting a Divided World, and is framed by the subtitle From Shared Histories to Common Futures. Through keynote contributions, panel discussions and site visits, the programme explores questions of conflict and cooperation, restitution and responsibility, as well as the role of museums in shaping understandings of the past, present and future.
