What is geocaching?
Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunting game where participants use the Geocaching app or a provided map to find containers, known as “caches”, at specific locations.
Hidden containers often contain a logbook for participants to sign, and sometimes small trinkets in which participants can trade out for an item of equal or lesser value. Common trinkets are coins, small pins and little resin creatures.
Recommended supplies for geocaching
A smartphone (if using the app), a pen and comfortable shoes to walk in!
The app
To geocache using your phone, simply download the app Geocaching. You may be asked to create an account.
If you choose not to use the app, the Washburn University Alumni Association and Foundation will be providing “passports” that provide directions to the geocaches. Receive your passport electronically by registering for this event or receive a printed passport at the Movie Night or at the Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center by showing your registration to a member of the Washburn University Alumni Association and Foundation staff.
