Join us for an opening reception for Dylan England, kicking off the 2025-2026 artist series in the Flickinger Performing Arts Center at Nichols School.Dylan England is a Buffalo-based artist whose work explores memory through collage, found text, and images. “England’s collection of cut-paper collage works looks to nostalgia as a means to dislodge legibility. His process involves delicately excised pages, whose whorls are overlaid onto found images to create dense fields of visual chatter and filigrees of gesture. These layers sit one atop another to mask their material origins, while simultaneously inviting closer inspection.”
In I Wrote Haikus, England moves between richly layered, sentence-based collages and minimalist compositions centered on singular words or phrases. The series as a whole functions like a memory—sometimes sharp and clear, other times fragmented and obscured. This juxtaposition of styles invites viewers to engage with the artwork as they would with a poem or song, recalling isolated words or fleeting images that coexist in a shifting, associative space—much like the workings of memory itself, and the emotional, nonlinear nature of recollection and expression.
