I Was a Teenage Dirtbag is a solo contemporary abstract painting exhibition by resident artist Kayla Moffatt, presented in partnership with The Magnolia Art Xchange, exploring Y2K girlhood, punk angst, rebellion, and the emotional residue of growing up through bold abstraction, bright color, layered surfaces, mixed media, and Moffatt’s signature expressive mark-making.The work uses color, gesture, and material to process memory and identity—less about nostalgia as sentiment, and more about what lingers underneath it. Early-2000s influence, punk energy, and feminine adolescence are present as tone and texture rather than literal imagery, allowing the paintings to remain intuitive, physical, and emotionally driven.
Alongside the paintings, the exhibition includes select immersive and interactive elements that support the work, creating a space that feels intentional, lived-in, and reflective.
