To be, or not to be… honestly, we get it.Theatre Tallahassee closes out its season with the hilarious comedy I Hate Hamlet by Paul Rudnick — and we're going out with a laugh.
TV star Andrew Rally has just landed the role of a lifetime: Hamlet in a prestigious Shakespeare in the Park production. There's just one problem. He absolutely does not want to do it. Between a canceled TV series, a girlfriend with very firm convictions about chastity, and a New York apartment with some seriously unusual history, Andrew's life is already complicated enough — and then the ghost of legendary actor John Barrymore shows up in full Shakespearean regalia to make sure he takes the stage.
What follows is a wickedly funny battle of wills between a reluctant modern actor and a larger-than-life spirit who refuses to leave until Andrew faces the world's greatest dramatic challenge. It's a love letter to theatre, actors, and the beautiful absurdity of why we do any of this.
