The production ran for 125 performances in Los Angeles and for nine months Off-Broadway, earning widespread media attention, critical acclaim, and dozens of rave reviews, including an LA Times Critic’s Choice designation. Drawing from Bruce’s landmark court battles defending freedom of speech, the play weaves together his original comedic material and personal writings to reveal the man behind the icon — his darkness, and his undeniable brilliance.
Created and performed by Ronnie Marmo and directed by Tony Award-winning stage actor and film and television star Joe Mantegna, the show is as much a meditation on censorship and artistic expression as it is a tribute to a singular voice that changed comedy forever.
