Suzanne Maier - former midwife and birth doula - has designed this workshop to teach about birth and hypnotherapy with a research-based, practical and scientific approach.
No woo-woo in this one.
It is for pregnant people and their birthing partner, designed to help you understand how hypnotherapy works on the subconscious, and how to use this technique to go into a deep, calm space during the birth.
You will learn how to:
• deeply relax
• consciously breathe
• change your narrative from fear to excitement and joy, staying
in control of your *reaction* to the labour, not the labour itself
Relaxation and confidence in your body *allows* the physiology of labour to work. It also keeps you and your baby safe during the labour.
By the end of the workshop you will understand the physiology of birth and – importantly – you will know techniques to help this physiology work better.
What does that mean?
Fear, talking, lights, strangers, lack of privacy, unfamiliar environments – all interfere with labour. Why?
Your mammalian brain wants labour to stop until you can get somewhere safe.
Your mammalian brain doesn’t feel reassured by monitors and guidelines – although your mind might be.
Birth is hard.
Sometimes – even with hypnobirthing – you may get scared or frazzled.
You will learn techniques to work as a couple to allow relaxation and confidence to return.
But in order to have autonomy in your birthing experience you both need to have a good understanding of what is happening during the birth, and how the maternity/medical system approaches the experience.
You will learn
• how labour works
• what birth partners can do to help
• the maternity system’s approach (including home birth) and
your rights
• vit K, 3rd stage management
• immediate post-birth environment – its importance to you and
your baby’s health
• birth plan essentials
• how to work with maternity staff
• why so many births don’t go “as planned”
• how to use the hormones of birth
• how you can both stay calm and centred no matter what
happens
You will receive
• 7 hypnobirth downloads
• pdf book with detailed course info
• folder with info from the day
• regular correspondence from me!
Lunch and refreshments are included.
The workshop is held in a lovely garden room with plenty of space to stretch your legs and explore during break times.
