Join us on October 31st for a special Samhain celebration at Hypha Arts, when the veil between worlds is thin, to honor the changing of the seasons through an evening of intentional music and ritual. This evening features live performances by Creek St., Ghost Orchid, and Sara Gold, inviting deep listening and introspection.
Creek St. Set in motion by the unfolding of a collaborative process. Creek Street Collective guides the listener to a space of timeless reconnection. Weaving together their unique influences through ambient leaning soundscapes of experimental compositions, improvisational exploration, trip-hop inspired downtempo beats, electro-acoustic instrumentation and ethereal vocal song.
Featuring Jeff Riel (more like space) on guitar, Chris Rosso on production and live beats, Devon Ecru on Vocals and Nella Banner on violin and vocals
Ghost Orchid: Josh J. Searles, the visionary behind Ghost Orchid, has spent a lifetime honing his craft across various genres and instruments. A virtuoso guitarist, composer, and DJ, Searles has performed globally in solo concerts, duos, and electronic live sets. His dynamic range spans performances across Canada, the US, the UK, and Spain. As Ghost Orchid, Searles draws on decades of musical experience from his past projects Daega Sound and Tamarak, where he produced and remixed an impressive catalogue of original works released on international labels such as Muti Music, Interchill, and Deep Heads. Searles holds a Master's degree in classical guitar performance from the prestigious University of Alicante, where he studied under world-renowned guitarists, including Grammy-winning David Russell, Manuel Barrueco, and Sergio Assad. This classical foundation, combined with his deep immersion in electronic production, forms the bedrock of Ghost Orchid’s innovative sound, and promises to push the boundaries of modern composition, combining classical guitar's timeless beauty with the transformative possibilities of electronic music.
Sara Gold: Multidisciplinary artist Sara Gold’s semi-improvisational experimental new music explores the edges and the in-between of sound and perception.
With careful use of repetition, drones and low frequencies, Gold skillfully carries one upon a sculpted sonic journey. Providing a soundtrack to the internal flight of one’s minds eye as the veil between worlds lifts for a brief moment allowing us to collectively peer safely into the void.
Golds unique hybrid setup of large format, rare vintage analog electronics are live processed in Ableton and paired with looped and attenuated field recordings of nature including birds, ravens, rain, bats, frogs and owls, foraged locally throughout the year of 2024.
Tooth and Nail is a collaborative movement project by Emily Long and Alex Philcox. This duo studies love, death, sex, agony and bliss, catharsis, intimacy, impulse, and spirit through improv movement, contact, contemporary dance, clown/character work, acrobatics, butoh, and new forms. Their work is equally vulnerable as imaginative, creating space for raw humanity within a haunting fantasy.
As part of the evening's ritual, there will be a communal altar—In the spirit of Samhain, you are invited to bring tokens that honor the season, remember loved ones who have passed, or reflect your own intentions during this time of transition.
The space, bathed in candlelight, will provide a warm, intimate environment where participants can sit on the floor, connect with the music, and reflect on the shifting energies of the season.
