The Energy Trilemma highlights the often-competing challenges with cost of energy, security of energy supply, and adverse environmental impacts from energy production and use. The switch from use of unabated fossil fuels to low carbon energy supply addresses the environmental challenge, but this energy transition may impact on energy costs and security of supply. This talk will highlight the use of hydrogen as a clean energy vector which compliments the wider electrification of the Scottish and UK energy system, together with examples of current and planned deployments of hydrogen across Scotland.
Nigel Holmes is Chief Executive of Hydrogen Scotland, formerly known as the Scottish Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association. Nigel first became involved in renewables and hydrogen twenty years ago, joining Hydrogen Scotland as an individual member when it was established in 2004, and has been Chief Executive since 2011.
Hydrogen Scotland brings together over 200 members from industry, academia, public sector and individuals who are involved in the development and deployment of hydrogen across Scotland and more widely. An increasing number of members across the United Kingdom and Europe are now becoming involved with the Scottish hydrogen supply chain, enabling members to share experience and best practice in support of hydrogen and fuel cells for the wider decarbonisation of the energy system.
