While connections between George Clarke and Thomas Cole may not seem readily apparent, a closer look reveals striking similarities.About this Event
Betsy Jacks, Executive Director Emerita of the Thomas Cole National Historic Site, will discuss the life and times of Thomas Cole. Join us in our 2nd Hyde Hall Talks lecture series. Like Cole, George Clarke came to this country for a new life. When Cole arrived in Catskill, NY, in 1825, he was inspired by the artistic potential of the wild, natural landscape of the Hudson River Valley. Clarke arrived in Albany in 1806, intending to develop an agricultural empire. The two men have more in common than meets the eye.
