In 1862, the American poet Emily Dickinson reported in a letter that she objected to an 1860 story called "Circumstance" because it "followed [her], in the Dark".
Domhnall Mitchell is a professor at NTNU with a special interest in Emily Dickinson's work. Using her poem "One need not be a chamber - to be Haunted", he will give a lecture at Moholt bibliotek, where he will look at the relationship the poem dramatizes between the speaker and the more general Gothic tradition, while also taking seriously Dickinson's claim that she personally "avoided" things that followed her in the dark.
