Patrick Bateman has the perfect suit, the perfect skincare routine and the perfect business card. He moves through a world of designer labels, exclusive restaurants and rehearsed conversations, obsessing over status, surface and conformity while trying desperately to perform the role of the perfect man.
Directed by Mary Harron and adapted from Bret Easton Ellisโs notorious novel, American Psycho transforms the emptiness of consumer culture into something grotesque, hilarious and deeply unsettling. Bateman drifts through carefully curated routines and shallow interactions, imitating human connection while slipping further into alienation, narcissism and violence.
Anchored by an unforgettable performance from Christian Bale, the film remains as relevant now as ever, exploring the performance of masculinity, the loneliness beneath image-obsessed culture and the terrifying ease with which Bateman blends into the world around him.
