Introducing the Humanist Toastmasters (Proposed Club)
Under SG Agora • In Collaboration with Toastmasters International District 80, Division M, Area M2
The Humanist Toastmasters Club is an exciting new initiative emerging from SG Agora, created for individuals who want to strengthen their communication and leadership skills through the values of humanism, critical inquiry, compassion, and community.
Working closely with Toastmasters International District 80, we are currently forming Singapore’s first Humanist-themed Toastmasters club, with a demonstration meeting planned as the next major step toward chartering.
🌟 Why a Humanist Toastmasters Club?
Humanists are often active in dialogue, advocacy, community engagement, and public education. Many of us speak on topics such as:
- Humanism and secular values
- Social issues and community well-being
- Ethics, compassion, and critical thinking
- Personal journeys of meaning-making without religion
- Intercultural and interfaith understanding
- Science, reason, and evidence-based thinking
Toastmasters provides a structured, supportive, and internationally recognised platform for developing communication and leadership ability—skills that empower humanists to speak confidently, advocate responsibly, and build positive influence.
A Humanist Toastmasters group offers a friendly home for people who want:
- A space grounded in humanist values
- A supportive environment to practise speeches on humanism and social issues
- Leadership pathways that fit a humanist worldview
- A community of diverse thinkers who value reason, empathy, and integrity
It will be inclusive and open to anyone, humanist or otherwise, who resonates with these values.
🎤 What is the Demonstration Meeting?
The demonstration meeting is the official preview session conducted with support from a representative from District 80.Division M, Area M2
This session:
- Shows how a Toastmasters meeting works
- Introduces speaking roles and formats
- Demonstrates evaluations, table topics, and leadership roles
- Gives potential charter members a real experience of the club
- Helps us gather the required number of names to form an official club
This session will also highlight how humanist principles can naturally blend with Toastmasters skills—through thoughtful speech topics, reflective discussions, and leadership development grounded in shared values.
Vision for the Proposed Humanist Toastmasters Club
To cultivate confident, compassionate, and courageous communicators who use reason, empathy, and humanist values to enrich dialogue within society.
