Capable of art, of breath-taking beauty, of medieval torture chambers, of acts of deep kindness towards strangers, and of mass genocide. Is there such a thing as good or evil human nature? Are we creatures of primarily reason or passion? Is morality natural, acquired or a corruption? In this course we will explore the ideas and assumptions of several major philosophers and their intellectual impact.
Michael Couch has been teaching community education courses for over a decade. With an academic background in Philosophy, Classical Studies, Education and History, Michael recently completed his PhD in the History of Philosophy of Education in New Zealand. He enjoys learning new topics and incorporates passion and wry humour into all the courses he teaches.
