About this course
The course is the second part of an introduction to Human Biology to include the following topic areas: The endocrine system and Homeostasis (coordination and control of the body), The Nervous system (reflex actions and the eye), The kidneys (osmoregulation, diabetes and dialysis), The Immune system (defense against disease),
If you are interested in knowing more about how the Human Body works, then this course offers the necessary information and knowledge to gain an understanding in what makes an efficient human body and gives examples of what and how things can go wrong in some organ systems.
This course is useful for learners who are interested in studying a pre–Access or an Access course or who are already studying on one of these courses with a biology content. This Human Biology course would offer extra support and relevant knowledge for Access learners
By completing this course, you will gain an overview of some of the organ systems in the body and how they function. You will learn the role of organ systems and be able to relate these to their function. You will develop knowledge of life processes and how different organ systems within the body work together for an efficient working body. You will be able to identify how the endocrine system and the nervous system control the body in response to stimuli and describe a reflex action. You will also be able to describe how the kidneys function and their link to homeostasis. You will be able to describe immune responses and understand the importance of vaccination in helping to develop an immunity against disease.
Suggested Reading for the course:
- GCSE Biology books would be useful for background knowledge and to help develop an understanding as the course progresses.
- BBC Bitesize GCSE Biology
