About this Event
THE WORKSHOP:
These creative writing poetry workshops, led by Hannah Norris, will encourage you to see and hear poetry everywhere: shopping lists, WhatsApps, pub toilet graffiti and conversations overheard on public transport. Together, we will find inspiration by unlocking clues from the works of traditional and contemporary poets, as well as mining from our own experiences and surroundings.
You will be warmly welcomed to this supportive community, whether it’s your first time writing poetry or you have been writing it for many years.
The sessions will take place on the first Thursday of every month and each month will have a different theme and set of prompts, which you are welcome to interpret as loosely as you like - or ignore altogether, in favour of your own creative impulses. Freedom is key here!
THE TUTOR:
Hannah Norris (she/her) describes herself as an ‘obsessive diary writer’ who turns this material into poetry. She started writing poetry to help navigate her grief following a bereavement.
Hannah also loves to write about the foul-mouthed women in her family and the more mundane parts of life, from batch cooking to soulless retail parks. Hannah’s poetry has been featured in Left Lion, JARG, Streetcake, Postscript, Moonflake Press, Black Cat Poetry Press and on BBC Radio Merseyside.
Hannah enjoys writing poetry that rips up the rulebook around rhyme, stanzas and line breaks. Her favourite poet is Hera Lindsay Bird.
