HRTLND af den danske fotograf Mads Holm er en gennemgribende udforskning af livet i en verden i hastig forandring, optaget på tværs af 20 europæiske og nordamerikanske lande mellem 2013 og 2023.
Gennem fængende billeder af byliv, demonstrationer, nye teknologier, migration, arkitektur og militariserede rum reflekterer bogen over de paradokser og spændinger, der former det moderne samfund. Den fremhæver samspillet mellem opkobling og kontrol, frihed og overvågning og den gradvise militarisering af hverdagslivet.
Udstillingen og bogen præsenterer et hyperrealistisk landskab, hvor det almindelige er vævet sammen med det foruroligende og udfordrer beskueren til at sætte spørgsmålstegn ved, hvad der er synligt, og hvad der forbliver skjult. Her fanger Holm understrømmene af global kapitalisme, militarisering og samfundsmæssig fragmentering og fremfører en lagdelt fortælling, der i lige så høj grad er et kunstnerisk udtryk som en politisk handling.
I tråd med fotoværkernes relation til det offentlige rum og diskurs, vises en række af værkerne i det offentlige rum på Halmtorvet. I udstillingsperiodens første uge opfører Mads Holm dagligt performanceværket Self-Fulfilling Prophecy, som kombinerer byvandring mellem værkerne og oplæsning af hans tekster i bogen.
Mads Holm har tidligere udstillet billeder fra serien HRTLND i det offentlige rum i henholdsvis Haag i Holland (2020) og senest i Braunschweig i Tyskland som del af gruppeudstillingen BOOK_SPACES på Museum für Photographie Braunschweig (2023).
Udstillingen er kurateret af Matthias Hvass Borello.

HRTLND by Danish photographer Mads Holm is a powerful exploration of life in a rapidly changing world, captured across 20 European and North American countries between 2013 and 2023. Through striking images of urban life, demonstrations, emerging technologies, migration, architecture, and militarized spaces, the book reflects on the paradoxes and tensions shaping modern society. It highlights the interplay between connectivity and control, freedom and surveillance, and the gradual militarization of everyday life.
The book presents a hyperreal landscape where the ordinary is interwoven with the unsettling, challenging the viewer to question what is visible and what remains obscured. Here Holm captures the undercurrents of global capitalism, militarization, and societal fragmentation, offering a layered narrative that is as much an artistic statement as it is a political act.

In line with the photographs' relation to public space and discourse, a number of the works are shown in public space in Halmtorvet. In the first week of the exhibition period, Mads Holm will perform the daily performance work Self-Fulfilling Prophecy, which combines a city walk between the works and readings of his essays in the book.

Mads Holm has previously exhibited images from the HRTLND series in public spaces in The Hague in the Netherlands (2020) and most recently in Braunschweig, Germany as part of the group exhibition BOOK_SPACES at Museum für Photographie Braunschweig (2023).
