How to Taste Wine with CYAN

Curious about wine but not sure where to start? Join us for a relaxed, fun, and slightly cheeky evening of tasting and discovery at UnWined. This isn’t about memorizing regions or pretending to taste “notes of leather and forest floor” - it’s about building confidence, trusting your own palate, and figuring out what you actually enjoy. Expect a welcoming, social vibe with plenty of laughs along the way.

This event is perfect for beginners or anyone who knows they like wine but feels a bit lost when it comes to choosing it. Whether you’re totally new or just want to expand your knowledge, this is a low-pressure, social, and skill-building experience. Come solo or with friends - either way, you’ll likely leave with a few new connections.

You’ll be guided through a crash course on how to taste wine, focusing on simple, practical tools to help you identify your preferences. Together, we’ll sample four different wines (a mix of white and red, from light to full-bodied), all tasted blind - meaning you won’t know what they are until the end. This approach keeps things open-minded and judgment-free, so you can focus on what you actually like rather than labels or past experiences. Along the way, you’ll learn what to look for, how to describe what you’re tasting, and what questions to ask when buying wine in the future.

The event takes place at UnWined, a cozy, intimate wine shop setting that’s perfect for a guided tasting. Expect a casual and welcoming atmosphere - think warm lighting, small group interaction, and plenty of opportunity to ask questions.

Your ticket includes a guided tasting of four wines, expert instruction, and a special take-home gift courtesy to help continue your wine journey. Any wines you’d like to purchase at the end of the night will be available at 10% off.

About your facilitator

Your host for the evening is a passionate wine professional from UnWined who believes wine should be approachable, not intimidating. With a mix of humour, real talk, and practical knowledge, they’ll guide you through the basics in a way that actually sticks - no snobbery, just good wine and good conversation.

You are always welcome to attend CYAN events on your own - many people do! Our event staff are there to support you, and we often use light icebreakers to help everyone feel comfortable and included.

While CYAN’s programming is designed with young adults in mind, everyone is welcome to attend our events, except events involving alcohol, which are 18+ only.
