About this Event

What goes into writing a co-authored book? Authors Kathryn Holmes and MarcyKate Connolly will share how they worked together to write their new middle-grade novel, The Thirteenth Circle. They will discuss their creative process, from initial inspiration and brainstorming to drafting and revision, and beyond. The workshop will provide attendees with insights into multiple approaches to the co-author relationship. Who writes what? How do you give each other feedback? What if you disagree? And then, what happens when you’re ready to sell the book?

Kathryn Holmes is the author of the Class Critters chapter book series, which includes Tally Tuttle Turns Into a Turtle, David Dixon’s Day as a Dachshund, and Madison Morris is NOT a Mouse!. Her next book, and her middle-grade debut, is The Thirteenth Circle, co-written with MarcyKate Connolly and releasing in winter 2024. Kathryn also wrote the young adult novels The Distance Between Lost and Found and How It Feels to Fly. She grew up in Maryville, Tennessee, and now lives in Brooklyn, New York, with her husband, daughter, and piles upon piles of books. A graduate of The New School’s MFA in Creative Writing program, Kathryn works as a freelance dance journalist, among other writing gigs.

MarcyKate Connolly is a New York Times bestselling children’s book author who lives in New England with her family and short-nosed dogs. She graduated from Hampshire College (a magical place where they don’t give you grades) where she wrote an opera sequel to Hamlet as the equivalent of a senior thesis. It was also there that she first fell in love with plotting and has been dreaming up new ways to make life difficult for her characters ever since. You can visit her online at www.marcykate.com.
