About this Event
Stoicism has long offered guidance in Western culture. Celebrated by the Romans, it shaped early Christianity and inspired Shakespeare. Today, it continues to resonate with therapists and politicians alike. How to Live Like a Stoic offers a fresh take on one of the world’s oldest philosophies, Stoicism, and shows how its ideas can help us navigate love, politics, money, spirituality, and the complexities of modern life. Join author Tom Hodgkinson, and journalist John Humphrys on Thursday12th February to find out how.
Tom Hodgkinson is editor of the Idler magazine. He is the author of How to Be Idle, How to Be Free, The Idle Parent, Brave Old World, The Ukulele Handbook and Business for Bohemians. In 2008 he and his partner Victoria launched a school - the Idler Academy of Philosophy, Husbandry and Merriment - at the Port Eliot Festival.
John Humphrys was born into poverty and left school at fifteen to work on his local paper. He moved into broadcasting a few years later and became the youngest journalist ever to be appointed a foreign correspondent by the BBC. He has since worked in print and tv across the Atlantic, from the Sunday Times to presenting Mastermind, and alongside his wife, is the co-founder of the Kitchen Table Charities Trust working with children in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The discussion will be followed by an audience Q&A and book signing. Your ticket includes a complimentary glass of wine.
