Come for this exciting political book talk by author Scott Ferson on his latest book, How the Democrats Lost America: Making Sense of the 2024 Election and the Future of American Politics.
Most people interviewed for the book have never been contacted by a candidate for federal office or a party of any flavor. In a digital world where the political class increasingly targets a relative few congressional districts in seven swing states, those interviewed were largely ignored by the Democrats, who electorally shrink to the coasts and scattered urban pockets of the country.
The author brings voice to the coalition of the disconnected, from the Democratic Party, but from politics in general, through their stories, and opens up a discussion of what democracy means today. The Declaration of Independence, a document we celebrate this year, tells us we can alter or abolish a government that doesn't work for us. How the Democrats Lost America spells out how it doesn't for a lot of people and what we might do to include everyone, the coasts and those in between.
