Unlike learning to speak, reading does not occur naturally in the human brain. The brain must be taught to read. Multiple research studies have shown that if parents, grandparents, siblings, or friends participate in this process at home, before and during the early school years, a child learns to read sooner and more effectively, ultimately getting more out of their schooling. The good news is that it’s never too late to start. In this session we discuss what must happen in the brain for it to learn to read words, and what caregivers can do to assist in this cognitive process. This session also gives time to ask questions and add to the discussion
