Housing, ‘Home’ and Poverty

Join the Bristol Poverty Institute (BPI) and a range of participants for this half-day face-to-face event at the University of Bristol exploring the concepts of housing, ‘home’, and how these can intersect with dimensions of poverty.

The event will consist of a combination of presentations, breakout groups, and networking opportunities exploring a range of relevant aspects including housing policy, homelessness, financial resilience, mental health, utilities, and what ‘home’ means to different people and their sense of belonging. The main event will wrap up around 17:00, followed by a networking drinks reception.

We are also delighted to be joined by Mr Joseph Elliott, a Senior Analyst in Insight and Analysis at the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) which is an independent social change organisation working to solve UK poverty. More speakers and contributors will be added shortly.

The purpose of this event is to bring together a range of voices and perspectives to identify potential synergies and new spaces for collaboration both internally and externally, and to explore new directions and research questions on this topic. We particularly welcome participants with lived experience of the topics under discussion.

We will develop a contingency plan in case we need to move the event online due to COVID rates.

Please be aware that the Bristol Poverty Institute plan to take photographs during the event, which we will share online (including our Twitter feed, website and/or blog). If you are uncomfortable with this, please notify a member of the BPI team on the day and we will endeavour to try and avoid including you in any photographs. Due to the nature of the event we cannot guarantee you won’t be in any images, but we will try and avoid taking photos where you are clearly visible.
