About this Event
The Safe Urban Driving (SUD) course is imperative for commercial drivers regularly operating vehicles in urban settings with high volumes of vulnerable road users, including cyclists and pedestrians. The SUD training, delivered through a combination of classroom and on-cycle sessions on the same day, is accredited by Driver CPC & FORS and fully aligned with the requirements of:
- Work Related Road Risk (WRRR)
- Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) Silver level
- Construction Logistics and Community Safety (CLOCS) Standard
Theoretical Content:
- The evolving urban streetscape
- Sharing the road safely with vulnerable road users
- Defensive driving techniques and understanding vehicle safety equipment and its maintenance
Practical Content:
- Exchanging places, driver attitude, and perception
- Introduction to active travel, driver fitness, and health
- Hazard recognition: understanding the challenges faced by vulnerable road users
This course, approved by licensed training providers for the Driver CPC, runs for seven hours in compliance with periodic training regulations. Note that the DVSA 7-hour upload is not covered by the funding, and participants will be required to make a payment of £10 per person (£8.75 upload fee and £1.25 admin in vat) on the day of training to receive this certification. Attendees must be physically capable of riding a bicycle to complete the course and obtain a certificate.
