This two day class is designed to be flexible enough for a beginner with no weaving experience or an intermediate rigid heddle weaver who wants to improve and learn new skills. In this class, students will learn the techniques required to direct warp a rigid heddle loom with two colors for a houndstooth check scarf. You will take the loom home for a night to weave the scarf on your own and return the next day with the weaving complete. You will then learn how to remove the scarf from the loom and twist fringe to finish.
We will use an 8 dent heddle in this class. You can rent a loom kit with all the necessary equipment from the instructor for $5, payable in cash, in class. If you have your own loom and do not have an 8 dent heddle, please contact the teacher for alternative yarn suggestions.
Supplies provided by student : 200 grams (400 yards) of worsted weight yarn in two different and contrasting solid colors, one light and one dark. (Please refer to photos for examples.) You will need about 100 grams (200 yards) of each color. Suggested yarns are Berroco Vintage, Cascade 220 or Cascade 220 Superwash, Lion Brand Wool Ease, or Patons Classic Wool. You will need 100 grams (minimum 200 yards) of the dark color and 100 grams (minimum 200 yards) of the light color. Suggested yarns are Berroco Vintage, Cascade 220 or Cascade 220 Superwash, Lion Brand Wool Ease, or Patons Classic Wool.
Additional supplies provided by the teacher: Handout. Cricket Rigid Heddle loom rental kit, with all weaving equipment (minus the yarn), is available from the instructor, for $5 in cash at the first class.
If you have your own loom, it must be in working condition, have all necessary pegs and clamps, sley hook, warp separating paper, and appropriate heddle(s) for the yarn you are using. The $3 handout fee will still apply.
