Presented with Lake Street Lift
Cost: Free with registration
The Great Northern and Lake Street Lift have teamed up to present Stories by Twin Cities-based installation artist Eric Rieger, also known as HOTTEA. The project, a large-scale public art piece inspired by the artist’s conversations with community members who live or work along East Lake Street, will feature Rieger’s signature street art style and incorporate yarn as a featured medium. The work is a celebration of the stories and experiences of all those who call this area home.
Stories, running Jan 23–Feb 2, will be unveiled as part of The Great Northern 2025 with a celebratory event Sat, Jan 25 at 5 pm. The community is invited to hear from Rieger, gather and warm up around fire pits, indulge in food and beverages sourced from East Lake Street’s varied hospitality scene, and enjoy music by a local DJ (to be announced).
This Cultural Districts Art Fund program activity is funded, in part, by the Arts & Cultural Affairs Department in the City of Minneapolis.
About HOTTEA:
Artist HOTTEA began his work with typography on fences turning an ordinary everyday object into something designers and artists use everyday- the grid. The foundation behind the work of HOTTEA is to use the existing infrastructure and create an artwork or idea that is in harmony within the given space. In addition to adapting to the physical qualities of a space or surface- the artist plays close attention to the movement and life in and around the space. When experiencing the artist work you almost feel as if the piece was designed for you because thats exactly who he was thinking of. When the viewer has a personal connection with a piece of artwork there is a good chance it will become a lasting memory and remind that person of the space. When artwork is able to create a lasting impression even after the artwork is gone the artwork lives on forever within the subconscious of the viewer.
