This program covers a tour of the farm, safety, grooming, horse anatomy, breeds, colors, heights and weights, behavior and language, illnesses and basic horse health care, what horses eat and what they need to stay healthy, overview of tack, a tacking-up demonstration, and horse leading. This program aims to meet requirements for GS Daisy Journey Badge, GS Brownie Pets Badge, GS Junior Horseback Riding Badge, GS Cadette Animal Helpers Badge, and GS Seniors Voice or Animals Badge.
Most of the Boy Scouts Animal Science Badge and Horsemanship Badge requirements are covered, except for the final item, which requires a scout to independently ride on a trail or in the arena and demonstrate skills such as backing up, turning, and stopping. Boy Scouts seeking this badge must also go to a riding facility for the last requirement as Freedom Hill Horse Rescue is NOT a riding facility and cannot offer these services. Our horses are older in years and cannot be ridden.
