The text for the post: This Black History Month, I’m inviting you into a moment years in the making.
I’m currently in the final stretch of my doctoral program, with just two classes standing between me and doctoral hooding.
Hoodin’ and Hollerin’ is a two-night concert experience rooted in my lived journey as a Black, queer artist, educator, and scholar.
Through music, storytelling, and communal joy, these evenings honor the sounds and stories that have shaped me—onstage, in the classroom, and beyond.
Across musical theatre, gospel, and R&B, we’ll celebrate traditions deeply embedded in Black history and profoundly influenced by queer artists and storytellers—named and unnamed—whose brilliance paved the way.
Both nights offer a musical journey, reflecting legacy, resilience, and what it means to keep becoming.
This concert is both a celebration of the road so far and a fundraiser supporting that final push.
