About this Event
There is a loneliness in carrying the grief of what is befalling our world.
We know that no future possibilites exist for unlimited growth in a finite planet.
Rather than feeling afraid of our pain for the world, we’ll come together and learn to feel strengthened by it.
This workshop offers a space to bring our grief out of isolation and into community.
Earth School: Honouring Our Pain, Loving Our World is a 90-minute climate grief mini-retreat rooted in Joanna Macy’s Work That Reconnects. Together, we’ll move through the spiral of:
- Grounding in gratitude
- Honouring our pain for the world
- Seeing with new eyes
- Going forth with courage
Through meditation, restorative yoga, and guided journaling, we will make space to sit fully with the emotional reality of living in uncertain times.
This is not about carbon footprints or lifestyle checklists. This is about honouring the grief, outrage, and despair that come with living through the climate crisis. Pain for the world is not something to push away—it is evidence of our love and our interconnectedness with all life. When we allow ourselves to feel it, something shifts. Grief becomes strength. Outrage becomes clarity. Love becomes fiercer.
You’ll leave with a mini-workbook of prompts, poems, and nature-inspired practices to continue at home. More importantly, you’ll leave feeling less isolated, more rooted, and more alive.
Because to love our world, we need our pain. And when we allow ourselves to feel it together, we discover the courage to live more fully in the present and to boldly build the world we want and need.
About the Facilitator:
Hi, I’m Laura - a climate justice practitioner, urban beekeeper, and yoga & meditation teacher. My work has taken me from policy and advocacy to hands-on environmental education, and throughout it all, I’ve felt the deep emotional weight of living through the climate crisis.
I created this session of Earth School because Joanna Macy’s Work That Reconnects has given me a home for feelings I didn’t know what to do with: grief, despair, outrage, and love for our world. I want to share how the tools of meditation and mindfulness, found in Macy’s work, can provide soul-soothing and life-sustaining practices to help us stay grounded, feel less numb, and cultivate the courage we need in these uncertain times.
