About this Event
Join with your fellow Catholic creatives in an evening that will help us spiritually prepare for the upcoming 500th anniversary of Our Lady of Guadalupe’s appearance in 1531, the birthday of Christianity in the Americas. This Evening for Artists and Art Lover is part of Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone’s ProjectGuadalupe2031.org.
The evening begins with a song from the magnificent schola Seraphour https://seraphour.com/
Next up: the Nican Mopohua. The Benedict XVI Institute just recently adapted the Nican Mopohua, the earliest account of Our Lady's appearance (the manuscript dates to 1556) originally in the Aztec language Nahautl into a short play in English as part of its Home Enthronement kit.
After the play, we launch into a discussion together into the significance of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness not only of Mexico but of all the Americas. In fact Our Lady of Guadalupe has been the patroness of Southern California since a 1754 papal bull by Pope Benedict XIV who approved December 12 as her feast day throughout what was then known as “New Spain”.
The Benedict XVI Institute as part of ProjectGuadalupe2031.org also commissioned a new Litany to Our Lady of Guadalupe from renowned poet James Matthew Wilson, which has been approved for private use by Archbishop Cordileone. We close, led by the astounding voice of Heidi Vass of Seraphour, chanting the new Litany to Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Refreshments, fellowship, and fun follows with a dose of artistic networking. Be part of the new Catholic Renaissance. The event is free but your donations are appreciated and help us keep these events going: $25 is the suggested donation per person which is pretty good for dinner, a concert and a show but your presence and your prayers are the gift we really cherish. Registering helps us plan the reception. Come!
Learn more about Seraphour: Celebrating that which is true, beautiful and good, Seraphour was formed as a response to the isolation of the Covid pandemic. The Southern California based group is on a mission to create beauty and light out of a dark and quiet time. The all-female quartet is dedicated to the preservation and proliferation of the sacred canon – highlighting unaccompanied classical sacred gems that celebrate the beauty of the female voice. Presenting pieces from the Renaissance to present day and commissioning new works for sacred contemplation, their music celebrates the tradition of beauty that spans centuries and inspires souls. Seraphour’s debut album, “Angele Dei,” was released in October 2021. It has since been featured on classical radio stations and syndicated NPR and PBS programs across the country. In addition to terrestrial radio, “Angele Dei” can be heard and downloaded on all streaming platforms including, but not limited to Amazon Music, iTunes, Spotify and Pandora. In addition to their debut album, Seraphour’s live performances feature music that highlights the Liturgical year. The ladies of Seraphour are also currently working on a series of audio/visual projects featuring Music in Inspired Spaces and getting started on their second Album – a Christmas offering centered-around the “O Magnum Mysterium” text. For more information about the group, see their website (www.seraphour.com) or follow them on social media @seraphour.
