Join us as we celebrate a remarkable milestone - 150 years of service, dedication, and community commitment.The City of Statesville invites residents and visitors alike to honor the legacy of the Statesville Fire Department on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fire Station 1 (822 5th Street). This free, family-friendly event is open to the entire community.
This special anniversary marks a century and a half of protecting lives and property while evolving to meet the needs of a growing city. From its beginnings in the late 1800s - sparked by devastating downtown fires and the formation of early volunteer companies - the department has grown into a modern, professional organization equipped to respond to a wide range of emergencies, all while maintaining strong ties to the community it proudly serves.
The celebration will begin with an opening ceremony featuring remarks from the Fire Chief and local officials, followed by a keynote presentation highlighting the department’s history, growth, and lasting impact.
Throughout the event, attendees can experience both the past and present of firefighting through live firefighter muster activities, fire extinguisher demonstrations, and a fun parent-child firefighter tug of war. Guests will also enjoy a variety of interactive and educational activities, including fire safety demonstrations, a smoke house experience, fire engine displays, meet-and-greet opportunities with firefighters, a turnout gear race, bounce houses, and hands-on fire safety crafts.
Lunch will be provided, featuring hot dogs and all the fixings. As a special thank you to the community, the first 100 children will receive free ice cream, and the first 100 adults will receive a commemorative 150th anniversary challenge coin.
