Celebrate the return of spring with a guided bird walk at Sandy Bottom Park, one of the Finger Lakes’ quiet gems. Late April is an exciting time for birding in the Honeoye area, as migrating songbirds arrive alongside year-round residents and early nesters.Led by Eaton Birding Society member Nancy Jameson, this program is designed especially for beginners and novice birders. We’ll cover the basics of bird identification, how to use binoculars, and tips for spotting and listening for birds in the wild. We’ll stroll the park’s trails and wetlands at an easy pace, listening for birdsong and watching for movement in the trees, shrubs, and along the water’s edge. Likely sightings may include warblers, sparrows, woodpeckers, and waterfowl, as well as local favorites like red-winged blackbirds and eastern bluebirds.
This bird walk is suitable for beginners and experienced birders alike. Binoculars are recommended but not required; a limited number may be available to share. Dress for the weather and trail conditions, and be prepared for muddy spots typical of early spring.
