The Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect happens when larger cities experience warmer temperatures than the surrounding, more rural areas. Here in Atlanta, we try to mitigate that by planting more trees in our city to provide shade and cool the air through evapotranspiration.During this homeschool day, we will be exploring how trees help cool cities by measuring the temperature of things in our environment. Then we will think about how we can improve our own neighborhoods and communities to help cool them off as well.
These activities are designed for learners ages 7-12. Registration cost is $10 for first child and $5 for each additional sibling.
