Hey,
Thank you for your interest in our antenatal classes made just for women and birthing people with black African and Caribbean roots. We know some ethnicities experiences health inequalities in the UK, so our classes aim to provide a safe and supportive environment where you can learn about antenatal care, labour and birth, breastfeeding, and postnatal wellbeing.
It's a free NHS course that goes on for four weeks with four sessions held every Tuesday. Make sure you can come to all four! This course is only for thoes recieveing maternity care at Homerton Hospital.
Here's what we'll be covering:
Week 1: 18:30- 20:00
Antenatal: Expectations of pregnancy, birth and beyond - Diet and Lifestyle - What are risk factors?
Week 2: 18:30-20:00
Birth: Advocating for myself - Birthplace options - Natural birth
Week 3:18:30-20:00
Other types of birth: Induction of labour All types of births - Things that happen and change - Pain relief options
Week 4:18:00-20:00
Postnatal: Care of your newborn - Breastfeeding and formula feeding - Emotional well-being and relationships
We're doing all the sessions in the Antenatal Clinic (below the scan department). Session 1 is just for women and birthing people, but all birthing partners are welcome to join the other three sessions.
